Places to visit

If you wish to explore the West Country there are few better places to be situated. The Georgian city of Bath is 20 miles away, Salisbury 17 miles, the hilltop town of Shaftesbury with it's famous monastery ruins and Gold Hill is 4 miles and the Jurassic coast an hour's drive. There are numerous stately homes (Longleat being the most famous), castles and gardens within easy striking distance, some a couple of miles from the cottage and superb gastro pubs and restaurants nearby.

Shaftesbury itself (4 miles away) stands 700 feet above sea level with views over the Blackmore Vale. It is a two hour drive from London, a 50 minute drive from Bath, the coast is an hour away and there are numerous places to visit. There is plenty of information in the cottage and suggestions of where to visit, where to eat and where to shop.

  • Corfe Castle (1 hour)
  • Studland beach (1 hour)
  • The cottage is in an ideal location if planning on attending any events, some of which are below:
  • The Chalk Valley History Festival (27 June-3 July)
  • The Larmer Tree Festival (13-17 July)
  • The Shaftesbury Food Festival (usually in May)
  • Frome Independent Market -a fabulous food fair which is staged the first Sunday of each month.
  • In the summer there are many National Garden Scheme gardens to visit and village fetes are to be found nearly every weekend.
